There are a lot of decisions in business that have to be made. Whether it be from payroll, to client and customer relationships, to what kind of color to paint the walls in the lobby, there are more than enough instances where you have to make decisions. One of the hardest decisions you can make these days is whether or not to turn your business green.
Turning your business green is more than just putting in low energy light bulbs. That’s a decision that doesn’t take more than a few minutes. It’s easy and can save you money but outfitting your whole business with alternative energy such as wind or solar power is a far more complicated endeavor. This can mean a lot of things to consider and here are 3 things you should keep in mind when making that ever important decision.
1. What is the overall cost? – Forget tax breaks and what it might save you in the long run. The question is what will it cost you today. It’s all about the type of money you will have to spend today. So when you are making the choice to spend that money you need to know what the bottom line is today and that should influence your decision.
2. Will your business suffer? – This is not a bad question to consider. Does solar power work as well as traditional power? If the answer is no then it might not even be worth considering. Don’t feel bad because you want to keep the level of your business at it’s highest so if the new power will do that for you then it might be something worth considering.
3. How Much Will it Save You? – This is the 64,000 dollar question. Are there tax breaks? How much will it save you on the electric bill? This is the question that matters the most because this will ultimately determine if you do it at all. If the savings are there, you’ll find a way to make it happen.
